Summer might feel like the downtime for hunters, but I see it as the perfect chance to get prepped before the rush. I've been sorting through my gear and keeping fit, although I know I could be doing more like scouting or land management, so I'm curious about what everyone else focuses on during these quieter months.

I get more specific with training, both physical training and marksmanship training.

For physical preparation I do a lot more rucking, especially with heavier loads.
I reduce my training volume in the gym and focus on heavy weights. I ramp up odd object training and loaded carries a bit.

At the range and in dryfire I shoot off the tripod almost exclusively. I shoot both clipped in as well as off a tac table and bag.

I've been sorting through gear as well.

I've done some scouting. This year I'm trying to determine if I'm going to hunt deer over here in the western side of the state. It seems like our numbers are up?
I've heard scuttlebutt about guys seeing some mature shooter bucks.
I'm ramping scouting after this week.
