Old iron thread

I’ve got a handful of vintage guns tucked away, a WWII M1 Garand my granddad carried and an old Winchester that still smells like oil and stories. I shoot them slow, clean them careful and swap tales with buddies about their quirks. Anyone else collect old iron or restore pieces with family history?

I love old iron. I shoot my granddad’s M1 Garand slow, I clean it carefully with proper oil and enjoy swapping stories about its quirks. Restoring a Winchester with family has been a great way to keep history alive.

Don't overdo it cleaning or fixing it up, that kills the value and the history..just keep it clean and take it easy when you shoot it.

That's great @Wickham. That’s the kind of advice my dad would give, shoot them enough to keep the parts moving but never push them too hard. Use light loads and good oil and write down the story of each gun for the next generation.

Use solvent (Hoppes or CLP), a soft brush and gun oil.
