Choke tubes confuse me

I got a turkey choke that is modified and full. I know they matter for patterns but I don't really know which one to use when. It feels like I should understand this better. When do you use what?

I’d think a choke made for turkey would be full.
I don’t have any real use for choke tubes or poly-choke type devices. I seldom hunt birds of any kind that are close and even if they are, if I’m on ‘em I’ll hit ‘em, regardless of choke.

 I used to feel completely lost when it came to chokes until I actually got around to patterning them. Seeing it all laid out on paper just clicked for me in a way no explanation ever could. I now just trust what my gun actually shows me.

Fair point, skill covers a lot but chokes still help when the shot doesn’t cooperate perfectly.
