I put a $800 scope on a $400 rifle

Some people say match your scope price to your rifle price. I say put good glass on whatever you got and cheap rifle shoots way better now. Is this backwards or does it actually make sense?

Everyday. Most rifles will shoot, if you build a load and put quality glass on them.

I have always heard to spend more on glass than your rifle cost and I don't doubt that it's true but I've never been able to do it.

I buy decent glass but by the time I buy a new rifle I don't usually have enough money left to spend that much again on a scope. I buy a $300-$400 scope and start working on loads.

Even on my old 26 year old 300 win mag- a quality scope always makes it way to my rifle.
The quality of glass has improved dramatically, and now with addition of higher magnification in a zoomed lenses- A quality scope is paramount

Yep! Amazing what happens when you feed it good ammo and clear glass.

I feel that. Budget gets smoked on the rifle, scope comes second

No kidding. Good glass can make an old rifle feel brand new

I used to run the cheapest scopes, because that's what I could afford. Now that the kids are grown and moved out I have better scopes on all the rifles. It makes a big difference'
