The person teaching me had confidence but not much depth of knowledge. Some of the basics were off and the instruction lacked context. I got through it but I did not learn much that actually helped me improve. It showed me how important it is to learn from someone who understands both safety and technique.

Sometimes the biggest lesson is realizing the instructor matters as much as the material being taught.

Of course bad instruction can stall progress more than lack of practice ever will.

Was this a professional instructor or a friend showing you how to shoot?

A “confident friend” situation, which made it more confusing than helpful early on..

My own first experience was pretty much the same and honestly, it created more problems than it solved. Finding a truly good instructor really changes everything.
