Old gear and new gear

Was old gear actually better or are we just nostalgic? I hear people say things were built tougher decades ago, what's this community's take?

Old gear was tough, no doubt, but I like some of the new stuff

I feel like things were built to last in the old days and repairable.
I definitely feel that the comfort level has been elevated by modern gear.
Bison hunting yesterday morning, in the first 5 hours we had everything that Western Wyoming could throw at you. Rain, freezing rain, graupel, snow, back to freezing rain and back to rain with wind gusts from 20 - 40+ mph.
I was completely warm, dry and relatively comfortable while hiking the entire time.
