I bought an expensive GPS unit for a backcountry hunt and only used it once. I ended up going back to my phone with offline maps since it worked better and I already knew it well. That GPS has been sitting in a drawer for four years now.

Mine’s a fancy range bag with pockets I never found useful, now it just collects dust.

Same thing happened with a handheld GPS I bought a while back. Smartphones do so much now, it's hard to imagine going back.

OnX Hunt lasts longer on airplane mode than most folks expect and honestly, the interface just feels way better. I carry a Garmin inReach for emergencies but for actual navigation, my phone has never let me down. Those standalone GPS devices seem stuck in 2008 compared to what your phone can do.

I still carry my 15 year old handheld GPS with me in my backpack but haven't used it in years. I carry it in case something happens to my phone.

Like you guys said, My phone seems to work better and the part I like the most is the screen is bigger so I can see it.
