I’ve been thinking about getting a shotgun for home defense and I’d love to hear what works for you all. I’m stuck between a 12-gauge and a 20-gauge. The 12-gauge has a lot of stopping power, which is appealing, but I’ve heard the 20-gauge has less recoil and might be easier to control in a tight space. What do you guys think?

I’m also wondering about barrel length and stock setups. What’s a good size for home defense? I want something reliable and straightforward. Any specific brands or models you’d recommend?

And how crucial is training? I’ve shot a few shotguns but never in a serious capacity. What kind of practice should I be focusing on to feel ready if the worst happens?

I'd go with a 20-gauge for easier handling, especially in tight spaces, with an 18–20" barrel and a synthetic stock

For home defense, I prefer a 12-gauge for stopping power, but a 20-gauge is easier indoors. Short barrel, simple stock, and lots of training on quick target acquisition are essential

Home defense with a shotgun, seems more like the size of shot than the size of bore. Close range for the most part. 00 buck?? There is a self defense load that is in my judge I really like. My 6 year old grandson shot it and it wasn't as bad as either of us thought.
